Is my insurance required to cover addiction treatment?
Federal law, the Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act, requires health plans that cover mental health and substance use treatment to do so on terms no more restrictive than they apply to medical and surgical care. It does not require every plan to include the benefit, and it does not set what you pay, so the specifics still come down to your individual policy.
