Why people take a job here

Six things that are true about working at Nova. Ask about every one of them at interview. If an answer does not match what is written here, we would rather you said so.

You see the whole arc, not a shift of it

People are at the Old Oaks Ranch campus for weeks rather than hours. You are not meeting someone once at their worst and handing them on. You see the same person get steady, start making plans, and you are still there when it happens.

A schedule that holds

Shift patterns are agreed with your supervisor and then left alone. Where a role carries weekend or on-call coverage the posting says so, and a change to your schedule comes with 14 days’ notice rather than on a Friday. You can plan a life around it.

A Hill Country campus, not a hospital floor

Old Oaks Ranch in Wimberley is a working campus with its own grounds, gym and common rooms, 45 minutes from Austin. The photographs on this page are of it. The setting is clinical and calm rather than institutional.

The next step is in the building

Detox, residential, outpatient and sober living sit inside one organization. When you hand a client on, you can tell them where they are going and who they will see, and you can find out how it went.

Lived experience is welcome here

A significant part of this workforce is in recovery. It is an asset here and it is never something you are asked to explain.

There is a route up, and it is written down

Several of the roles on this page name growth in the posting itself: supervision hours, professional development, advancement. Ask at interview what that looked like for the last person who did the job you are applying for.

What happens after you apply

  1. 1

    You apply

Through Proliant, our applicant system. Set aside about twenty minutes and have your resume, two previous employers and two references to hand; see the note below.

  2. 2

    We read it

A person reads every application. If the credential fits the role, you hear from us.

  3. 3

    Phone screen

Twenty to thirty minutes on your background, your credential, and what shift pattern actually works for you.

  4. 4

    On-site interview

You see the building and meet the people you would work beside. Ask them anything; that is what it is for.

  5. 5

    Offer and credentialing

Offer, background check and license verification. Bring your credential number; it moves faster.

Before you start the application: set aside twenty minutes

Our application system asks for a lot in one sitting, and we would rather tell you than have you find out four screens in. It wants your resume uploaded first, then your details, then two previous employers with dates, supervisor names and supervisor phone numbers, then two references with contact details, then a background-check consent. It does not save partway through. Have those to hand and it is a twenty-minute job. Start it on a phone between clients and you will lose it. If the form defeats you, call (512) 213-4304 and ask for HR, because we would rather take your details another way than lose you to a form.

Every role above applies through the same hiring system, which also lists anything posted since this page was last published.

Pay and benefits

  • Paid time off, accruing at 5.85 hours per pay period after the probationary period.

Pay for each role is on its own page. Some roles add benefits beyond this list.

Briarwood Detox is part of the same group as Nova Recovery Center, and these roles are filled through the same hiring team. The postings open on Briarwood Detox’s own site.
